Urgent Appeal to Rescue Rusty

Rusty’s story

Every so often a little soul arrives who quietly changes the people around them. Rusty is one of those dogs. This tiny 3-year-old male Yorkshire Terrier from Kempton Park, Gauteng has already been through far too much for one life. When he was rescued, Rusty arrived with a matted coat, fleas and ticks, badly rotten teeth, and a broken front leg.

What he needs now

Rusty’s rescuer has done everything she can to make him comfortable, but the veterinary care he needs — leg surgery and dental treatment — is beyond her means. For Rusty to walk, play and eat pain-free, he needs someone with the resources to give him the medical treatment he deserves.

Personality and temperament

Despite all he’s endured, Rusty is a soft, gentle boy who adores cuddles. He’s excellent with children, gets on very well with other dogs, and even does great with cats. At around 1 kg, he’s tiny, calm, and warm-hearted — the kind of companion who simply wants to be loved and to love in return.

What comes with Rusty

  • Bed and two blankets
  • Food and water bowl
  • Two doggie vests
  • Information about his current diet (soft wet food)

Important health notes

Rusty is sterilised and currently eats soft/wet food while he waits for dental work. He does not generally bark unless someone is loud, and he settled in quickly with his rescuer. Please note: his front leg is broken and his teeth are in need of dental care — these are the main reasons he needs veterinary assistance before he can go to a permanent home.

How you can help

There are several ways to give Rusty a second chance:

  1. Adopt: If you’re able to provide a loving home and cover Rusty’s veterinary needs, please get in touch.
  2. Foster: Temporarily foster Rusty while funds are raised for surgery and dental care.
  3. Donate: Contribute towards his vet bills — even small donations help cover surgery, dental work and aftercare.
  4. Share: Please share Rusty’s story on social media — visibility saves lives.

If you can help Rusty in any way — through adoption, fostering, donations, or by sharing his story — please contact SA Yorkie Rescue. Visit our website for adoption and support information: www.yorkierescue.co.za.
